Day 5 - Follow Your Heart

I didn't stitch as much as I wanted yesterday. Mostly cause I was checking my stash and checking online stores for fabric. I was wondering what's the difference between Jobelan and Lugana. I have only stitched on Jobelan from those two and I did like it a lot. I was exlained the difference in a Yahoo group (thank you Theresa!). I wanted to try Lugana so I was checking my fave online stores. BUT! When I was going through my stash I found a piece of Lugana. I didn't know I had that piece! So my yesterday's stitching was on that :)

I didn't stitch much at all, but I did test the fabric, a little bit at least. It does feel nice to stitch on it and it's quite easy, however, I don't really love the looks of it. Not sure why not and what's wrong with it, it just doesn't look as nice as Jobelan or linen. But I might order some more to give it a go and to see if I get used to it.

Here's what I stitched yesterday. Picture is not that good, the fabric is actually very light pink (angel blush) but it looks like its light blue/grey.



Eilen en pistelly juuri laisinkaan. Olisin halunnut pistellä enempi, mutta suuri osa pistelyajasta kului netissä surffaillen ja omia varastoja penkoen. Mietin mikä on ero Jobelanin ja Luganan välillä. Olen aiemmin pistelly Jobelanille, mutta Luganalle en ollenkaan. Yahoon ryhmässä minulle kerrottiin ero näiden kahden välillä. Halusin kokeilla myös Luganaa, joten surffasin lempparinettikaupoissani tarkastamassa valikoimaa. MUTTA! Penkoessani omaa varastoani löysin pienen, unohdetun Lugana-palasen! En edes tiennyt omistavani Luganaa. Joten eilinen hassutustyö pisteltiin tälle kankaalle :)

Paljoa en pistellyt, mutta ainakin testasin kankaan, jotenkin kutenkin. Sille pistely tuntuu kivalta ja helpolta mutta en kuitenkaan juurikaan pidä miltä se näyttää. En oikein tiedä mikä siinä on vialla, mutta se ei näytä yhtä kauniilta kuin esim. juuri Jobelan. Taidan kuitenkin tilata lisää Luganaa ja antaa sille mahdollisuuden.

Ylhäällä kuva eilisen pistelyistä. Kuten aiemmin sanoin, en kovinkaan paljoa ehtinyt tehdä. Kuva on myös aika huono, kangas kun on vaaleanpunainen (angel blush) ja tuossa se näyttää sinertävän harmaalta.

Day 4 - Trick or treat

Yesterday I had problems at choosing what to stitch. I spent at least couple hours just trying to choose my next one! Ofc the funny thing is that it's only a start and I'm gonna start them all sooner or later.. so no idea why it was so hard yesterday. I kinda wanted to start another one (Winter wonderland) but wasn't sure about the fabric after all. It might be a bit too dark, don't know.

Well, finally I was able to make a decision. I decided to start stitching Joan Elliott's "Trick or treat" from "Quick and easy stitch and craft" (issue 157). I had chosen a fabric for it (handyed 14ct aida) but I started to wonder if I should choose a similar colour fabric which is linen. You see, I don't stitch on linen a lot nor evenweave. I have tried them both but stitching on them is a lot slower so I prefer aida. Making that decision took a while, too. I finally decided to try linen as the pattern is quite small so better start with it than with something bigger (then again I do have a bigger one on my list and I planned to stitch that on linen as well). So my fabric is Silkweaver's 28ct Cashel Linen "Inferno".

Stitching on linen.. was damn nice! It IS slower than on aida but the fabric is so nice and soft! Plus I like the colour of the fabric. However I need to unpick some stitching, the orange ones. I started to stitch with orange and I was afraid to pull the thread tight cause didn't wanna cause huge holes on the fabric. So ofc the stitches are now too loose and they look really bad. Oh well, at least it's not much I need to unpick.

I even started to wonder if I should change some fabric choices now. From aida to linen/evenweave. Hehe, we will see. I still do like aida too ofc.

Eilen oli kamalan vaikeaa päättää mitä pistellä seuraavaksi. Meni ainakin pari tuntia pähkäillessä minkä työn aloitan seuraavana! Hassuinta tietenkin on, että aloitan kaiiki työt ennemmin tai myöhemmin. Halusin oikeastaan aloittaa erään toisen työn (Winter wonderland), mutta en ole lainkaan varma kankaasta. Se saattaa olla hieman liian tumma väriltään. Joten jätin sen työn sivuun ja valitsin toisen.

Vihdoin ja viimein onnistuin valitsemaan seuraavan työn. Päätin aloittaa pistelemään Joan Elliottin "Trick or treat" noitaa. Malli on "Quick and easy stitch and craft"-lehdestä, numerosta 157. Olin jo valinnut kauniin käsinvärjätyn kankaan mallille joka on 14ct aida. Aloin kuitenkin miettiä, joskos pitäisikin valita samanvärinen kangas, joka on kuitenkin pellavaa. Minä en pistele pellavalle juuri laisinkaan, sillä sille pistely on todella hidasta. En ole tottunut siihen. Joten pistelen mielummin aidalle. Tämänkin päätöksen tekeminen otti aikansa.. Päätin kuitenkin kokeilla pellavaa, koska työ on melko pieni, joten helpompaa aloittaa pellavalle pistely pienen mallin kanssa (toisaalta, minulla on listassa isompi malli, jonka olen suunnitellu pistelevöni pellavalle..). Kankaaksi siis valikoitui lopulta Silkweaverin 28ct Cashel Linen "Inferno".

Pellavalle pistely.. on huippua! Pistely ON hitaampaa kuin aidalle, mutta kangas on niin ihanan pehmeää! Väri on kans mieleeni. Minun pitää tosin purkaa muutamia pistoja, kaikki oranssit. En alussa uskaltanut kiristää lankaa tarpeeksi, etten vahingossakaan tee kankaaseen reikiä, koska pistot ovat liian kireällä. Tämän takia tapahtui päinvastainen, eli pistot ovat liian löysällä ja näyttävät kamalilta! Onneksi pistoja ei ole kovinkaan paljoa.

Aloin jopa pohtia valitsemieni kankaiden vaihtoa. Siis aidasta pellavaan/evenweave (onko tälle suomenkielistä nimitystä?). Hehe saapa nähdä. Ja pidän siis aidasta edelleen, vaikkakin pellava tuntuu nyt todella mukavalta pistellä.

TUSAL

I still didn't manage to add a picture of my stitching from yesterday. Blogger just keeps adding it for minutes and minutes but nothing ever happens. So gonna try later again!

I have seen some TUSAL-posts in several blogs and I had NO idea what it was about. Today I finally found a link to a blog which explains it all. You can find everything about it here (It's Daffycat: A Totally Useless Stitch-A-Long). Yes, yes, ofcourse I joined it! :) Now I just need to find a jar for it. Or buy something pretty, hehe.

Vieläkään en kuvien liittäminen onnistu. Blogger vaan jumittaa pienessä ikkunassa ja sanoo lataavansa kuvaa. Mitään ei kuitenkaan tapahdu piiiitkään aikaan. Joten yritän uudelleen taas myöhemmin!

Olen nähnyt monissa blogeissa TUSAL- postauksia ja purkkeja. Missään ei kuitenkaan selitetty mistä on kyse. Tänään kuitenkin vihdoin löysin blogin joka selittää asian! Täältä pääsee lukemaan asiasta enemmän (It's Daffycat: A Totally Useless Stitch-A-Long), Ja kyllä, pitihän minun lähteä tähänkin mukaan! :) Nyt vain pitää löytää kaunis pieni purkki tai ostaa sellainen, hehe.

Day 3 - Spring ABCs (finished)

Day 3 of Crazy January Challenge is here. I started to stitch Lizzie Kate's "Spring ABCs" today and I am happy to tell you that I also finished it! Yay, my first finished piece this year :) I used 14ct aida which I hand dyed myself few years ago. It's yellow/orange. I used DMC for the carrot (green one is color variations) and for alphabets I used Dragon Floss which I got from exchange few years back. I was really happy to be able to use the pink one on this even though I have to admit the pink is not the best for this fabric.. Or the fabric is not the best for the pink :P But I still like this a lot! I didn't stitch the egg. Not quite sure if I will add anything there or if I will try to find some sort of egg-button.




Kolmas päivä hassutuksessa menossa. Aloitin pistelemään Lizzie Katen "Spring ABCs" ja sain sen myös valmiiksi, Jeee!!! Ensimmäinen valmis työ tälle vuotta. Tuntuu kivalta, hehe. Käytin 14ct aidaa jonka itse värjäsin muutama vuosi sitten. Kangas on keltainen/oranssi. Porkkana on pistelty DMC:n langoilla (vihreä on color variations-sarjaa) ja kirjaimet on pistely Dragon Flossin käsinvärjätyillä, jotka sain muutama vuosi sitten vaihdossa. Ihanaa että sain viimein pisteltyä jotain tuolla pinkillä :) Vaikkakin täytyy myöntää ettei tuo vaaleanpunainen väri ole se kaikista sopivin tuolle kankaalle. Tai kangas langalle :P Mutta pidän lopputuloksesta silti kovasti. Alareunassa pitäisi olla pistelty muna (tai nappi) mutta en sitä pistelly enkä ole ihan varma mitä sen kanssa teen. Pistelenkö vai yritänkö löytää saman tyylisen napin.

Day 2 - The snowcapped trees

Yesterday I didn't stitch as much as I wanted to. I was doing some shopping and taking my bf back to the airport as well (sadface). But I did manage to stitch a bit in the evening. Wanted to stitch a bit longer but I got so tired and thought it's a lot better to go to sleep rather than continue stitching as I am sure I would be doing some unpicking today :P

Here's what I did yesterday. The chart is from "Cross stitch and needlework"-magazine (number 27 on my list). Farbic is 14ct cream aida.




Eilen en pistelly kovinkaan paljoa. Olisin halunnut pistellä paljon enemmän, mutta olin tekemässä ostoksia ja saatoin poikaystäväni lentokentälle (ei kivaa..). Illalla pistelin jonkin verran ja olisin mielelläni halunnut pistellä myöhempään, mutta aloin olla niin väsynyt että pistelystä ei meinannut tulla enää mitään. Olisin luultavasti joutunut purkaa suurimman osan kuitenkin :P

Toisena aloituksena oli siis "Cross stitch and needlework"-lehden malli (listassani numero 27). Kankaana on 14ct cream aida.

The Box

In December I started to wonder how I am gonna store all the new pieces I'm about to start. I didn't have a box or basket where I am storing my WIPs and UFOs. I keep them in the drawer or a closet. Those are full of stuff already (not just tons of UFOs though, hehe). So I decided to buy a new one! Yesterday I went to a big store with my mum and I was checking all the boxs/baskets they had there. Found a nice one, but the price tag was a bit too much for me (plus now that I think about it, it was open box, no cover or anything, so no good). Then I noticed a huge pile of boxes which also were quite huge! Oooh they looked sooo nice! I took one, noticed it also had a cover so easy to close and it looked so pretty! I was really afraid to check the pricetag! But I did.. I had to re-check it three times, from three different boxes as it said 15,50 euros. I couldn't believe it! I took my box and started running! OK, I didn't run but walked very quickly to my mum and showed her my new treasure :) Here's a pic of my new Box which is in good use already!



Joulukuussa aloin miettiä säilytyspaikkaa tammikkuun hassutuksille. Laatikot ja kaapit joita yleensä käytän ovat jo niin täynnä, ettei sinne enää kovin paljoa mahdu. Enkä edes haluaisi niitä siellä pitää koska luultavasti sinne ne myös unohtuisivat.. Ennestään minulla ei käsityökoria ollutkaan. Joten eilen olimme Keskisellä ja tutkin heidän kori/laatikkovalikoimaansa. Osa tuntui olevan budjettini ulkopuolella ja osassa ei ollut minkäänlaista kantta joka suojaisi töitä. Sitten huomasin ison pinon isoja laatikoita! Laatikoissa oli jopa kaunis kansi ja sisällä ihana kangas. Olin ihan varma, että laatikko on valikoiman kalleimmasta päästä. Mutta yllätys olikin aikamoinen kun tarkistin hintalapun: 15,50 euroa!! Tarkistin hinnan kolmesti, kolmesta eri laatikosta. 15, 50 euroa. Wohoo! Nappasin laatikon syliini ja lähdin kiireen vilkkaa näyttämään saalistani äidilleni. Ylhäällä kuva laatikosta, joka on jo ahkerassa käytössä :)

I'm back again!

And I'm back updating my blog. I was at home for the holidays, but my amazing boyfriend was here so I didn't really open my laptop at all during the week.

It's January now, which means that Crazy January Challenge 2012 has started. Eeek! haha. I am a bit terrified about it but also very excited. I also made little changes on the list during the holidays. I added more charts on the list as I received some new ones after Christmas. I don't have 31 starts as some people do, neither I have 15 now but 25 new starts. I might add some UFOs on the list after I have started all the new ones as I do have few waiting.. Hmm.. actually that's a damn good idea! :)

Here's the 1st day's results! (I haven't stitched anything today yet, gonna start soon, so gonna post a 2nd pic later, today or tomorrow)



This one is.. "Victorian Charm" by Sunset. And the pic is upside down, lol.

Not really sure which will be my 2nd one, I think I might choose one from Lizzie Kate as they are nice and small.. Then again it doesn't matter when you are starting them. Maybe I choose the one with the nicest fabric or just put my hand on the box where I have them and pick one randomly?
